Janis understands hospitality from the inside out, and that is what makes her exceptional at finding the people who can lead it.

Her career began on the floor, working her way from bartender to General Manager at the Empire Grill in Ottawa, one of Canada’s most recognised independent restaurant properties. From there she moved into Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, where she held senior F&B leadership roles at the Chateau Whistler – one of North America’s leading ski resorts – before joining the brand’s transitions team for the opening and rebranding of the Fairmont Heliopolis and Cairo Towers. Later, as Food and Beverage Manager at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, she led five mountain venues, introduced new service standards, and delivered consistent growth across both revenue and team engagement.

She went on to make the move into recruitment, joining JRoss Hospitality Recruiters, one of Canada’s leading specialist search practices, where she spent over a decade matching exceptional talent with the organisations that needed them most. The thread connecting both careers is the same: a genuine understanding of what great hospitality leadership looks like in practice, and the instinct to recognise it in people.
